The category decides which fields the marketplace requires for your listing — pick "Women's Dresses" and you'll be asked for different attributes than "Handbags." Getting the category right up front saves you from filling the wrong fields later.
Why the category matters
Every marketplace organizes products into its own category tree, and each category carries its own set of required and optional fields. Osello uses your listing's category to build the exact field list that marketplace expects, so the category is required before a listing can be completed and submitted.
On some marketplaces (like Target+), your account is only approved to sell in certain categories. Osello's category picker only offers categories you can actually use.
Pick a category
The Category field appears when you create a listing, and on an existing listing under Edit Structure:
- Click the category field and start typing. The search is AI-powered and matches on meaning, not just exact words — searching "sundress" surfaces the marketplace's dress categories even when their official names differ.
- Each result shows its full path (for example, "Clothing > Women's > Dresses"), so you can tell similar categories apart.
- Before you type, the top result is marked (recommended) — Osello's best suggestion for this listing, based on the product's data.
Browse a marketplace's categories
To explore what a marketplace offers before committing:
- In the sidebar, open the marketplace and click Categories.
- Search by name and click any category to see its fields.
- Fields marked with a Required badge must be filled for listings in that category.
This is the quickest way to compare two candidate categories and see which one asks for information you actually have.
Changing the category later
You can change a listing's category anytime from Edit Structure. Be aware that the field list follows the category: requirements you already satisfied may no longer apply, and the new category may introduce new required fields to fill. The listing's status badge will update to show anything that's now missing.
