Target+ Size Chart Field Guide

A size chart image for the product variant.

The Size Chart on Target+ is an image of a measurement table attached to an apparel, swim, footwear or performance listing. Target does not require it at submission, but it requires one within 21 days of listing for Ready to Wear, Swim, Shoes and Performance items and may unlist items that still lack one after that (shoelaces and shoe horns are exempt). Shoppers open the chart from the product detail page to choose a size, so a missing or unreadable chart costs sales before Target's compliance check ever runs.

Target displays the chart as an image, so it has to be legible on its own, and it has to be the same image on the parent listing and on every child.

The rules

Rule Value
Required at submission No
Required within 21 days of listing Yes, for Ready to Wear, Swim, Shoes and Performance
Categories Category-specific; apparel, swim, footwear and performance wear
Level Parent listing and every child variant, same image
File type JPEG or PNG
Minimum dimensions 800 x 800 pixels
Text size 12 pixels or larger
Maximum file size 10 MB
Content A plain table of body measurements, one size per row

The table itself

The chart must be a clear table: a grid with headers such as Size, Bust, Waist, Hip or Chest, one size per row, and no merged cells. It shows guest body measurements, the shopper's own bust or waist, rather than the garment's laid-flat dimensions. Target's rules exclude graphics, measurement diagrams, lifestyle imagery, watermarks and logos from the chart, so a brand's stylized fit guide with an illustrated figure does not qualify even when it contains the right numbers.

Covering the size run

The chart has to include every size the listing sells. A chart that stops at XL on a style that runs to 3X fails the shopper who needs it most. Numeric sizes need a numeric chart: a style sold as 26 through 34 cannot ship with an S through XL table. Footwear charts list the sizes offered on the listing with the matching foot measurement.

Parent and child

Set the same chart on the parent and on every child variant. A chart set only on children does not display on Target.com, and a parent-only chart leaves children without one when Target reads the child record.

Examples

Chart Verdict Reason
A PNG grid, 1200 x 1200, headers Size / Bust / Waist / Hip, rows XS to 3X Good Plain table, body measurements, full size run
A JPEG table for sizes 26 to 34 with waist and hip in inches Good Numeric chart for a numeric size run
A branded fit guide with an illustrated figure and arrows Weak A measurement diagram, excluded by Target
A grid at 600 x 400 with 9-pixel text Weak Below the 800 x 800 minimum and unreadable
A table of garment lengths and chest widths laid flat Weak Garment dimensions, not body measurements
The general brand chart for men's tops on a women's dress Weak Wrong size run for the listing

Common mistakes

  • Picking a measurement diagram, a lifestyle photo or a "how to measure" illustration because it is the only sizing image in the catalog. Leave the field blank instead until a real chart exists.
  • Exporting the chart at the size it appears on your website. A 500-pixel web asset fails the 800 x 800 minimum; export from the source file.
  • Merged cells for size groupings ("S/M" spanning two rows). Give every size its own row.
  • Setting the chart on children only. It will not display.
  • One chart per brand rather than per size run. A style with regular and plus, or a numeric style, needs a chart that matches its own sizes.
  • Watermarks and logos on the chart, which Target excludes even when the table underneath is fine.

How Osello fills this field

Osello selects the size chart from your source product's images and files, looking for an image that is a plain measurement table covering the listing's size run at 800 x 800 pixels or more, as JPEG or PNG under 10 MB. When it finds one it sets the same image on the parent listing and on every child variant, so the parent and child rule is met without manual copying. When the source has no size chart, Osello leaves the field blank rather than choosing a measurement diagram or lifestyle image in its place. You can attach a chart yourself on the listing; if the source asset is too small, export a larger one from the source file first. See how Osello chooses your listing images, managing product images and the Target+ field directory.

Frequently asked questions

Is the size chart required to submit a listing on Target+?

No. A listing submits without one. Target requires a chart within 21 days of listing for Ready to Wear, Swim, Shoes and Performance items and may unlist items that still lack one, so add it before or soon after the listing goes live.

Should the chart show body measurements or garment measurements?

Body measurements. Target asks for guest body measurements such as bust, waist and hip, not the garment's laid-flat dimensions.

Can I use my brand's fit guide with an illustration of how to measure?

No. Target excludes measurement diagrams, graphics, lifestyle imagery, watermarks and logos from the size chart. Use a plain table.

Do I need the chart on every variant?

Yes. Set the same image on the parent and on every child. A chart on children only does not display on Target.com.

My size chart is a PDF. Can I use it?

No. Target accepts JPEG or PNG, at least 800 x 800 pixels with text of 12 pixels or larger. Export the table from the PDF as an image at that size.
