Return Policy is a three-letter code, such as AAA or AAB, that tells Target+ which return policy applies to an item. It is optional: when you leave it blank, Target selects and assigns a policy for you. It is set once per parent listing. Most sellers never fill it; Target's assignment is the default, and an unconfirmed code can attach the wrong policy to an item.
The rules
| Rule | Value |
|---|---|
| Required | No; Target assigns a policy when blank |
| Categories | Category-specific |
| Level | Parent listing, once per style |
| Length | Exactly 3 characters |
| Content | A return policy code Target has given you |
The value must be exactly three characters. Two-character or four-character entries fail validation in Osello before they reach Target. Enter the code alone. Your own return terms do not belong here; the field maps to one of Target's policies, and the policy text shoppers see comes from Target.
Examples
| Value | Verdict | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| AAA | Good | A three-letter policy code |
| AAB | Good | A three-letter policy code |
| Blank | Good | Target assigns the policy |
| 30-day returns | Weak | Descriptive text; fails the 3-character rule |
| AA | Weak | Two characters; fails validation |
| Final sale | Weak | Not a code; Target decides the policy |
Common mistakes
- Entering a code because the field exists. Blank is the right value unless your product data specifies a Target policy code.
- Writing return terms from your own store into the field.
How Osello fills this field
Osello fills Return Policy only when the return policy code is explicitly stated in your source product data, for instance in a Shopify metafield your team maintains for Target. Otherwise it leaves the field blank and lets Target assign a policy. The value is set once on the parent listing, and Osello validates that it is exactly three characters before submission. See what gets filled in automatically and the Target+ field directory.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to fill in Return Policy on Target+?
No. When it is blank, Target selects a policy and assigns it to the item. Leaving it blank is the normal choice.
Where do I get the codes?
From Target. The codes such as AAA and AAB come from Target's policy setup for your account, and Osello only passes on a code your product data already contains.
Can I write my store's return terms here?
No. The field takes a three-character code only. The policy shoppers see on Target comes from Target's assigned policy.
Why did Osello reject my value?
The value has to be exactly three characters. Check for trailing spaces, a missing letter or descriptive text.
