Target+ Carbon and Emission Qualifiers Field Guide

If a URL is not available, provide the legally required information as specified in California AB-1305 Voluntary Carbon Market Disclosures.

Carbon and Emission Qualifiers is the text version of Target+'s carbon disclosure attribute. California AB-1305, the Voluntary Carbon Market Disclosures law, requires anyone claiming a product is "carbon neutral", "net zero" or similar to publish specific supporting information. When you have that information but no web page to link to, Target asks you to provide it here. It is optional and set once per style at the parent listing level.

The rules

Rule Value
Required No. Fill it only when a carbon or emissions claim applies and no URL is available
Level Parent listing; every variant inherits it
Character limit 255
Content The legally required disclosure information, or the certifications behind the claim

When you have a page that carries the disclosure, use Carbon and Emission Claims URL instead. This field is Target's fallback for items without one, and 255 characters is short, so keep to the qualifiers themselves: the certification or standard, the certifying body and the scope of the claim.

Examples

Value Verdict
Carbon neutral certified by Climate Neutral, 2025; offsets verified to the Gold Standard Good: names the claim, the certifier and the standard
Manufacturing emissions offset through verified reforestation credits, third-party audited Good: says what is covered and how it is verified
Eco-friendly Weak: not a disclosure, and not a claim AB-1305 covers
We care about the planet Weak: marketing copy with no supporting information

Common mistakes

  • Treating the field as a place for general sustainability messaging. It is for the disclosure behind a specific carbon or emissions claim.
  • Filling it when a disclosure URL exists. Use the URL field and leave this one blank.

How Osello fills this field

Osello enters a value only when your source product data carries carbon or emissions certifications or disclosure text, and leaves the field blank otherwise; nothing is invented. The field is parent-level, so one value covers the style and every variant.

Other Target requirements are listed in the Target+ field directory.

Frequently asked questions

Is this field required?

No. It applies only to items that make a carbon or emissions claim covered by California AB-1305 and have no disclosure web page to link to.

Should I use this field or the URL field?

Use Carbon and Emission Claims URL when a page with the disclosure exists. Use this field only when no URL is available.

Does a "recycled materials" claim count?

Recycled content on its own is not a carbon or emissions claim. Fill this field only when the product claims a carbon or emissions outcome such as carbon neutral or net zero.
