Nordstrom Measurement Details Field Guide

Describes further measurement details not captured in other structured numeric measurement attributes. Use if a set contains multiple sizes, if measurements are specified in a different UOM, or if any more specific measurement details are needed.

Measurement Details is an optional free-text field on Nordstrom Marketplace for sizing information that the structured measurement attributes cannot hold. It appears on the product detail page, so shoppers read it directly. Most apparel, footwear and accessories leave it blank, because the size fields already say everything a shopper needs.

Fill it in when a set contains items in more than one size, when a measurement is given in a unit other than inches, or when a size run needs a sentence of explanation to make sense ("Small fits a 12 to 14 inch neck; Medium fits 14 to 16 inches").

Situations that call for it

Situation Fill it in? Example
A single garment with standard sizes (jacket, pants, shirt, dress, socks) No The size fields cover it
A set whose pieces come in different sizes Yes "Includes a 24 inch belt and a 32 inch belt"
A measurement in a unit other than inches Yes "Chain length 45 cm (17.7 inches)"
A size run that means something specific to this style Yes "One size fits waists 26 to 34 inches"

The rules

Rule Value
Required No
Level Parent listing, one value shared by every variant in the style group
Maximum length 5,000 characters
Units US sizing and inches. Centimeters may appear alongside inches, never instead of them
Content to leave out Color. Color belongs in the color fields
Characters to avoid Curly quotes, en and em dashes, bullets, trademark and registered symbols, the middle dot, the euro sign and other typographic characters

Write plain sentences with straight quotes and a hyphen where you need a dash. Nordstrom's item data rejects typographic characters, and a copy-paste from a word processor or a product spec sheet is the usual way they sneak in.

Examples

Value Verdict Reason
"Set includes one 24 inch belt and one 32 inch belt" Good A multi-size set, in inches
"Necklace length 40 cm (15.75 inches), extender 5 cm (2 inches)" Good Metric source data converted, inches present
"One size fits waists 26 to 34 inches" Good Explains a size the size fields cannot
"Blue scarf measures 70 x 20 inches" Weak Mentions color; drop "Blue"
"Size Medium" Weak Already covered by the size fields; leave blank
"Approx. 180 cm long" Weak Metric only; add inches

Common mistakes

  • Repeating the size run of an ordinary garment. If the size fields already say S, M, L, this field adds nothing.
  • Pasting a full size chart. The field holds a sentence or two of detail, not a chart.
  • Metric-only measurements. Nordstrom's shoppers read inches first, so convert and keep both.
  • Naming the colorway. The value is shared across every color in the style group, so a color name is wrong for all but one of them.
  • Curly quotes for inch marks. Type the word "inches" or use a straight quote.

How Osello fills this field

Osello treats Measurement Details as a parent-level text field, so the value is set once per style group and every variant shares it. When a listing is created, Osello's AI reads the source product and only writes a value when the sizing genuinely needs one: a set with several sizes, a non-inch unit, or a size run that needs explaining. For a plain garment it leaves the field blank, and it strips typographic characters and color mentions before saving. You can change the value on the parent listing at any time, or add your own guidance through custom instructions. The rest of Nordstrom's requirements are in the Nordstrom field directory.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to fill in Measurement Details for every Nordstrom item?

No. The field is optional. Leave it blank for any product whose sizing is fully described by the size fields, which covers most apparel, footwear and accessories.

Can I use centimeters?

Only alongside inches. Give the inch value first or in parentheses, but make sure it is there. Nordstrom is a US marketplace and its shoppers expect inches.

Is the value shared across colors and sizes?

Yes. Measurement Details lives on the parent listing, so every colorway and size in the style group shows the same text. Write it so it is true for all of them, and keep color out of it.
