Bloomingdale's Rise Type & Measurement (Women's Shorts) Field Guide

Provide rise measurement and indicate low, mid or high based on the following: 9” = high rise. Max character limit of 254 characters (including spaces).

Rise Type & Measurement is a size-and-fit attribute Bloomingdale's collects for items in its Women's active bottoms department. It carries the rise measurement in inches and the classification that goes with it: low, mid or high. Bloomingdale's own guidance sets the benchmark at 9" for high rise. The field is optional in the schema, but for leggings, shorts, joggers and pants it is the detail shoppers use to decide whether the waistband will sit where they want it, so treat it as one to fill every time. It appears on the product page and is set once per style.

The format

Give both parts in one phrase, in this exact shape:

Rise Measurement: Approx. 9"; Rise Type: high rise

The measurement comes first with "Approx." in front of it, a semicolon separates the two parts, and the rise type is written in lowercase. No trailing period.

Classifying the rise

Measurement Rise type
9" or more high rise
7" to 8.99" mid rise
Under 7" low rise

When you know the type but not the measurement, use the default number for that type: high 9", mid 8", low 6". When you know neither, judge from where the waistband sits in the images: at or above the natural waist is high (9"), just below the waist is mid (8"), on the hips is low (6"). With nothing to go on, the fallback is "Rise Measurement: Approx. 8"; Rise Type: mid rise".

Rules at a glance

Rule Value
Required No, but do not leave it blank on pants, jeans, shorts or leggings
Level Parent listing, shared by all colorways and sizes
Maximum length 254 characters including spaces
Format "Rise Measurement: Approx. X"; Rise Type: <type> rise"
Never include Color or size details

Women's active bottoms

This is the Women's active bottoms version of the rise attribute. Other departments word it differently: panties ask for the rise type alone ("Low rise", "Mid rise" or "High rise") and kids' bottoms ask for a length or rise style such as cropped, ankle or bootcut. On active bottoms, high-rise waistbands are the norm for leggings and many are 10" or more, so measure from the crotch seam to the top of the waistband on your sample and report what you find rather than assuming 9". The rest of the fit picture comes from Leg Length, Leg Silhouette and Waistband description.

Examples

Value Verdict Reason
Rise Measurement: Approx. 10.5"; Rise Type: high rise Good Measured value, correct classification
Rise Measurement: Approx. 8"; Rise Type: mid rise Good The default for a stated mid rise
High rise Weak Missing the measurement
9 inch rise Weak Missing the type and the format
Rise Measurement: Approx. 9"; Rise Type: mid rise Weak 9" is high rise, so the parts disagree

Common mistakes

  • Reporting a measurement and a type that contradict the table above.
  • Leaving the field blank on leggings because the schema says optional.
  • Writing the rise type in title case or adding a period. Keep "high rise" lowercase.
  • Using the front rise on one size and the back rise on another. Measure the front rise on your sample size.

How Osello fills this field

Osello treats Rise Type & Measurement as a parent-level text field and does not leave it blank for pants, jeans, shorts or leggings. It looks for a rise measurement in the product description and attributes, classifies it with the thresholds above, and writes the phrase in the exact format. With a stated type and no number it uses the default measurement for that type; with neither it estimates from the waistband position in the images, falling back to approx. 8" mid rise. The value is shared by every colorway and size of the style. See how Osello AI fills listing fields and the Bloomingdale's field directory.

Frequently asked questions

Which measurement counts as the rise?

The front rise: from the crotch seam up to the top of the waistband on your sample size. Report it with "Approx." in front.

What if I only know it is high rise?

Use the default measurement for that type: "Rise Measurement: Approx. 9"; Rise Type: high rise". Replace 9" with the real number as soon as you have it.

Is 8.5" mid rise or high rise?

Mid rise. Anything from 7" up to 8.99" is mid; 9" and above is high; under 7" is low.

Can I give just the rise type?

Not in this department. Bloomingdale's asks for the type alone only on panties. For Women's active bottoms, include both the measurement and the type.
