# Target+ Carbon and Emission Claims URL Field Guide

> If California AB-1305 Voluntary Carbon Market Disclosures applies to the item, this is the URL that links to a website that provides the legally required information that must be disclosed as per CA AB-2331 law. The URL must begin with a standard prefix such as www. or http:// or https://.

**Carbon and Emission Claims URL** is where Target+ collects the web address that backs up a carbon or emissions claim made about a product. It exists because of California AB-1305, the Voluntary Carbon Market Disclosures law, which requires anyone making claims such as "carbon neutral" or "net zero" to publish supporting information. If your product or its packaging makes such a claim, Target asks for the URL of the page that carries the legally required disclosure. If it does not, leave the field blank. It is optional and set once per style at the parent listing level.

## The rules

| Rule | Value |
| --- | --- |
| Required | No. Fill it only when a carbon or emissions claim applies to the item |
| Level | Parent listing; every variant inherits it |
| Character limit | 255 |
| Format | A valid URL starting with www., http:// or https:// |
| Content | The page that provides the disclosure required under California AB-1305 |

The URL has to point at the disclosure itself, not at your homepage or a general sustainability page that does not carry the required information. If you have the disclosure text but no page to link to, use [Carbon and Emission Qualifiers](/marketplaces/target/fields/carbon-and-emission-qualifiers) instead; Target treats it as the fallback for items without a URL.

## Examples

| Value | Verdict |
| --- | --- |
| https://www.brand.com/carbon-disclosure | Good: a full URL to the disclosure page |
| www.brand.com/impact/ab-1305 | Acceptable: Target accepts a www. prefix |
| brand.com/sustainability | Weak: no prefix, and a general page rather than the disclosure |
| See our website | Weak: not a URL |

## Common mistakes

- Filling the field for every product because a company-wide sustainability page exists. Only items that make a carbon or emissions claim need it.
- Entering both a URL here and the same text in Carbon and Emission Qualifiers. Use the URL when you have one.

## How Osello fills this field

Osello enters a URL only when one is present in your source product data, and leaves the field blank otherwise; nothing is invented. The value is validated as a URL that starts with http:// or https://, so a bare domain is corrected or left for you to fix. The field is parent-level, so one URL covers the style and every variant.

Other Target requirements are listed in the [Target+ field directory](/marketplaces/target/fields).

## Frequently asked questions

### Do I need to fill this field for every product?

No. It applies only to items that make a carbon or emissions claim covered by California AB-1305. Leave it blank for everything else.

### Can I enter the disclosure text instead of a link?

Yes, in Carbon and Emission Qualifiers. That field is Target's fallback when no URL is available.

### Can Osello fill the URL for me?

Only when the URL is already in your product data, for example in a Shopify metafield (see [using Shopify metafields](/help/products/using-shopify-metafields)). Osello never guesses a disclosure page, so a product with no URL in its data keeps the field blank until you enter one.
