# Macy's Size Chart Image Field Guide

> The URL to a size chart image to help customers decide what size of the product they should be getting.

The **Size Chart Image** is the chart Macy's shows behind the size guide link on the product page. Macy's requires one for every clothing and footwear item, at the UPC level, so every variant in a style group needs the same chart attached. In the Macy's schema the attribute is an image, submitted with the listing, and the chart has to follow Macy's format: a vertical JPG, US sizes in inches, brand and product type as the header and no logo.

A chart that matches the size run cuts returns; a chart that lists sizes the product does not come in, or leaves out ones it does, sends shoppers to the wrong size and gets the listing flagged in review.

## The rules

| Rule | Detail |
| --- | --- |
| Required | Every clothing and footwear item |
| Level | Set once per style group and attached to every UPC in the group |
| Match | The chart's brand, product type and size run match the product |
| Size type | Numeric sizes (0 to 12) need a numeric chart; alpha sizes (XS to XXL) need an alpha chart listing every offered size |
| Special sizes | Petite, Plus and Big & Tall groupings need their own charts with their own measurements |
| Units | US sizes in inches. Other conversions and centimeters may appear only in addition |
| Not a chart | A measurement diagram, product photo or infographic does not qualify |

## Chart format Macy's accepts

| Element | Requirement |
| --- | --- |
| File type | Ideally JPG |
| Orientation | Vertical rectangle |
| File size | Ideally under 100 KB (Osello allows uploads up to 5 MB, but Macy's prefers the small file) |
| Colors | Neutral |
| Header | Brand name plus product type, for example "Erin's Coats" |
| Logo | None |
| Label text | No "Size Chart" or "Size Guide" text on the image; the page adds that label |
| Graphics | Measuring illustrations are fine when they are neutral silhouettes and easy to read |

## Examples

| Chart | Verdict | Why |
| --- | --- | --- |
| "Harlow & Vine Dresses", vertical JPG, sizes 0-14 with bust, waist and hip in inches, 60 KB | Good | Matches a numeric dress run, right format and size |
| "Harlow & Vine Plus Dresses", sizes 14W-24W with plus measurements | Good | The Plus grouping has its own chart |
| Alpha chart XS-L attached to a product sold XS-XXL | Weak | XL and XXL are missing |
| Horizontal PNG with the brand logo and "SIZE GUIDE" across the top | Weak | Wrong orientation, wrong file type, logo and label text |
| Chart in centimeters only | Weak | US sizes in inches are required; centimeters may only be added |
| Photo of a tape measure on the garment | Weak | A measurement diagram, not a size chart |
| One women's chart used for the Petite grouping | Weak | Petite needs its own measurements |

## Common mistakes

- Attaching the chart to the parent only in your source system and forgetting that Macy's wants it on every UPC. Osello handles the fan-out, but the chart has to be selected on the listing.
- Reusing a brand-wide chart across product types. A denim chart and a knitwear chart from the same brand list different measurements.
- Charts with the marketing header. "Find your fit" and "Size guide" text conflicts with the label Macy's adds on the page.
- Leaving a 2 MB export from the design tool. Re-save the JPG under 100 KB.
- Picking a footwear chart for an apparel item, or the reverse, when the brand's charts are stored together.

## How Osello fills this field

Osello selects the size chart from the product's image assets, matching the chart to the product's brand, product type and size run and leaving the field blank when no chart image exists rather than picking a diagram or a product photo. The attribute is set on the parent listing, and Osello attaches the same chart to every variant in the style group when it submits, which is how Macy's wants it at the UPC level. Files over 5 MB are rejected on upload; the JPG, orientation and 100 KB guidance are Macy's requirements to meet in the chart file itself. Upload charts as [product images](/help/products/managing-product-images) in Shopify or directly in Osello so they are available to select, and use one per size type so Petite, Plus and Big & Tall groupings each get their own.

The other Macy's image attributes are in the [Macy's field directory](/marketplaces/macys/fields).

## Frequently asked questions

### Does every variant need the size chart?

Yes. Macy's asks for the chart at the UPC level, so every size and colorway in a style group carries it. Set it once on the parent listing and Osello applies it to each variant on submission.

### Can I use one chart for regular and plus sizes?

No. Plus, Petite and Big & Tall are separate Macy's groupings and each needs its own chart with its own measurements. A combined chart is not accepted in place of them.

### Can the chart include centimeters or EU sizes?

Only in addition to US sizes in inches. A chart with US inches and a centimeter column is fine; a chart in centimeters alone is not.

### Why is the file size limit 100 KB when Osello accepts 5 MB?

The 5 MB figure is Osello's upload ceiling for this attribute. Macy's format guidance asks for the chart JPG to be under 100 KB, so export the file small before uploading it, however they don't usually reject submissions when the file size is larger than 100kb.

### What if my brand has no size chart image?

Leave the attribute blank rather than attaching a measurement diagram or a product photo. Since Macy's requires a chart on clothing and footwear, create one in the accepted format before submitting those items.
