# Bloomingdale's Title Field Guide

> The title of the item as it should be displayed on the website. Max character limit of 254 characters (including spaces).

The **Title** is the product name Bloomingdale's shows at the top of the product page, in search results and in the category grid. It is required on every listing, and it follows a fixed structure: Brand Name + Style or Collection Name (if provided) + Modifier(s) + Product Type. Bloomingdale's caps it at 254 characters including spaces, but a good title runs 50 to 70 characters and never passes 250. One title covers the whole style group, so nothing in it can describe a single colorway or size.

## The structure

| Part | Rule | Example |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Brand Name | Always first. Never output a title without it. Keep stylized brand capitalization (kate spade new york, ba&sh, L'AGENCE) | Eliza J |
| Style or Collection Name | Included when the brand provides one | Montauk |
| Modifier(s) | The design, notable fabric or detail that sets the product apart. Keep one or two; drop keyword-style descriptors that do not identify the item | Cascading Ruffle Trimmed |
| Product Type | Bloomingdale's site navigation language: Tee, Sandal Pumps, Maxi Dress, Bootcut Jeans, Crossbody Bag | Maxi Dress |

From source title to Bloomingdale's title: "Floral Print Boatneck Long Sleeve Dress" -> "Eliza J Ruffled Long Sleeve Maxi Dress" -> "Eliza J Cascading Ruffle Trimmed Maxi Dress". The print comes out, the brand goes in, and the modifier that identifies the piece stays.

## Format

| Rule | Value |
| --- | --- |
| Length | Aim for 50 to 70 characters including spaces; never over 250 |
| Capitalization | Chicago Manual of Style initial case: capitalize each word except articles (a, an, the) and prepositions (at, by, from, in, into, for, on, to, up, with). Always capitalize the first and last word |
| Gender | Women's, Men's, Girls', Boys', Unisex, with the apostrophe after the s |
| Plus sizes | "Plus" after the gender, never "Plus Size" or any other size term: "Universal Standard Women's Plus Montauk Top" |
| Source errors | Fix clear mistakes and keep capitalization consistent |

## Formats by category

| Pre-Owned Jewelry | "Pre-Owned" + Brand + collection or style name + product type + material (metal and stones). Gold is 18K or 14K and Gold, White Gold or Rose Gold; never "Yellow Gold" | Pre-Owned Cartier Love Bracelet in 18K Gold |
| Pre-Owned Men's Watches | "Pre-Owned" + Brand + material + style or model name and number + case diameter | Pre-Owned Rolex Stainless Steel Cosmograph Daytona 6262, 40mm |

Kids titles have their own rules for the age group. Gender (Girls', Boys' or Unisex) comes right after the brand, and the age group comes last after a hyphen: Baby, Little Kid, Big Kid, or Toddler where only a toddler range is sold. Map it from the sizes offered: under 2T is Baby; 2T to 7 (girls 2-6X) is Little Kid; 8 and up (girls 7-16, boys 8-20) is Big Kid. A product spanning several groups lists them all, comma separated, and kids' t-shirts are "Tee". Examples: "Little Chicken Girls' Snacks Graphic Tee - Little Kid, Big Kid", "Hope & Henry Baby Boys' Organic Cotton Bodysuit - Baby".

Jeans are the one exception to the one-title rule. Bloomingdale's puts one wash per product page, so each wash variant keeps its own title ending in its wash name.

## Never in the title

- Colors, prints or patterns, except the wash on jeans. A style group that later adds a colorway would be stuck with a wrong title. A color word that is part of the style name stays: in "H&H Men's Blue Roger T-Shirt", "Blue Roger" is the style, so keep it unless the product also comes in other colors.
- Size terminology other than "Plus" and the kids age groups.
- Repetitive or keyword-stuffed terms, promotional language, trademark symbols.

## Examples

| Title | Verdict |
| --- | --- |
| Eliza J Women's Cascading Ruffle Trimmed Maxi Dress | Good: brand, gender, one modifier, navigation product type |
| Hope & Henry Boys' Organic Fair Sweater - Little Kid, Big Kid | Good: kids format with both age groups |
| Universal Standard Women's Plus Montauk Top | Good: "Plus" after the gender |
| Ramy Brook Women's Helena High Rise Flared Sailor Jeans in Medium Wash | Good: jeans carry the wash |
| Navy Floral Boatneck Dress | Weak: no brand, and a color and a print |
| Eliza J Women's Elegant Flattering Comfortable Maxi Dress Sale | Weak: keyword-stuffed modifiers and promotional language |
| Polo Ralph Lauren Boys Cotton Shirt Little Kid | Weak: missing apostrophe and the hyphen before the age group |

## Common mistakes

- Sending the Shopify title unchanged, with its color, season or SEO phrases.
- Starting with the product type or a modifier instead of the brand.
- Lowercasing a stylized brand into "Kate Spade New York", or capitalizing a brand that writes itself in lowercase.
- A different title on each colorway of a non-denim style.

## How Osello fills this field

The Title is set on the parent listing and every variant inherits it: variants are grouped by colorway and fall back on the parent value, so one title covers the style group unless a wash-specific denim title overrides it. Osello rewrites your source product title into the Bloomingdale's structure, keeping as much of the source wording as fits, always leading with the brand, removing color and size words, applying Chicago-style capitalization, and adding the gender, the "Plus" marker, the kids age group or the denim wash based on the listing's Bloomingdale's category. Brand-specific naming rules can be added as [custom instructions](/help/ai-prompts/custom-instructions), and [how Osello AI fills listing fields](/help/ai-prompts/how-osello-ai-fills-listing-fields) describes the rewrite process.

The [Brand Name](/marketplaces/bloomingdales/fields/brand) field supplies the first word of every title, and the rest of Bloomingdale's requirements are in the [Bloomingdale's field directory](/marketplaces/bloomingdales/fields).

## Frequently asked questions

### How long should a Bloomingdale's product title be?

Aim for 50 to 70 characters including spaces. The hard limit is 254 characters, and Bloomingdale's asks that titles never pass 250.

### Can the title include the color?

No, with one exception: jeans carry their wash name at the end ("in Dark Indigo"). A color word that is part of the style name, not a colorway, may stay if the product comes in no other colors.

### Does every colorway share the same title?

Yes, except denim. Titles cannot vary between the variants of a style group, so the title is set on the parent listing. Jeans are listed one wash per page, so each wash keeps its own title.

### How do I write kids titles?

Brand + Gender + Modifier + Product Type - Age Group, with Girls', Boys' or Unisex right after the brand and Baby, Little Kid, Big Kid or Toddler after a hyphen at the end, mapped from the sizes offered.

### How do I write a plus-size title?

Put "Plus" right after the gender: "Universal Standard Women's Plus Montauk Top". Never "Plus Size" or any other size term.
