# Why Did My Product Data Change Back?

> Product data in Osello re-syncs from your store, so edits to imported fields get overwritten. Here's what re-syncs, what sticks, and where each change belongs.

Because your store is the source of truth. Osello continuously re-imports product data from Shopify, so if you edit an imported field inside Osello, the next sync sets it back to whatever your store says. That's by design — it's what guarantees your catalog, your listings, and your store never drift apart.

## What happens on every sync

Osello refreshes a product from Shopify shortly after Shopify reports a change (usually within about 15 minutes) and does a full catalog import once a day. Each time, every imported field is reset to your store's current value — title, description, tags, brand, status, images, SKU, barcode, price, and weight included.

So an edit like rewriting a title in Osello will quietly revert, sometimes within minutes, and it can look like Osello "lost" your change. It didn't — it synced.

## What does stick in Osello

Fields your store doesn't provide are yours to manage in Osello, and syncs leave them alone:

- **Extra identifiers** — the dedicated UPC, EAN, GTIN, MPN, JAN, and ISBN fields (see [Product identifiers](/help/products/product-identifiers-upc-gtin-barcodes))
- **Dimensions** and **package weight / package dimensions**
- **Swatch image** and **size chart image** assignments

And products with no store connection at all — ones you created by hand or brought in from a file — are never overwritten, because there's nothing to sync them against.

## Where each change belongs

**Changing it everywhere? Change it in Shopify.** A new title, better description, or updated price belongs in your store. It flows into Osello automatically and from there to your listings — one edit, every channel. (Barcodes are the one exception: a corrected barcode reaches your products and any listing variants that don't have one yet, but a variant already listed under a barcode keeps it — see [Product identifiers](/help/products/product-identifiers-upc-gtin-barcodes).)

**Changing it for one marketplace? Change it on the listing.** Anything marketplace-specific — the category, required attributes, a title tuned for that marketplace's search — lives on the listing, not the product. That's exactly what listings are for: your product stays clean while each marketplace gets its own version. Open the marketplace in the sidebar, then **Listings**, and edit there.

**Data your store can't hold?** Use the Osello-only fields above, or add it as a metafield in Shopify so it imports cleanly and the AI can use it too.

## A quick rule of thumb

If you find yourself editing a product in Osello and it's connected to Shopify, pause and ask: "Do I want this on every channel, or just one?" Every channel means Shopify. Just one means the listing. Osello's product pages are best treated as a window into your store's data — great for reviewing what marketplaces will receive, not the place to override it.
