# Merge Listings Into One Configurable Listing

> How to ask your marketplace agent to combine separate listings into a single configurable listing, what it needs from you, and what happens to the listings left behind.

Sometimes the same style ends up split across several listings — one per size, or a "Little Kid"
listing beside a "Big Kid" one — when the marketplace expects a single product with size options.
Your marketplace agent can merge them into one **configurable** listing.

Ask it in the channel's chat, naming the listings:

> Merge these listings into one configurable listing with a Size option.

## What merging does

Merging **moves** variants; it never recreates them. Each SKU keeps its barcode and its submission
history, so nothing is re-listed on the marketplace under a new identifier.

1. Every SKU that belongs together is moved onto one destination listing — the parent.
2. Each moved SKU is given the option values that tell it apart from its new siblings (its size,
   color, and so on).
3. Listings left empty by the move are removed.

The destination has to be a configurable listing. If everything you are merging is a standalone
listing (one SKU each), the agent creates the configurable parent first.

## What the agent needs from you

**The option values for each SKU.** A standalone listing's SKU has no size or color recorded against
it — it never needed one, because it was the only SKU in its listing. To become a child of a
configurable parent it needs one, so the agent works it out from the product data, the SKU or the
title, and will ask you if it can't.

**No two SKUs on the same listing may share the same option values.** If two SKUs would both end up
as "Size: M", the merge can't place them both. The agent will tell you rather than guess.

The agent always shows you the plan — which SKUs move where, with what option values, and which
listings will be removed — and waits for your approval before touching anything. Deleting a listing
can't be undone.

## What happens to the listings left behind

- A **standalone** listing that gives up its only SKU is deleted automatically as part of the move.
- A **configurable** listing that gives up its children is deleted by the agent afterwards, once it
  has confirmed every child moved.

A listing is never deleted while it still holds SKUs.

## What doesn't move

Only the SKUs move. The destination keeps its own style code, title, category and listing-level
content, and the moved SKUs pick up the destination's listing-level values. If a listing you're
merging away has listing-level content worth keeping, tell the agent — deleting that listing discards
it.

## If part of the merge fails

Merging runs as a [bulk action](/help/channels-listings/create-listings-in-bulk), so each SKU is moved
as its own row and one problem row never stops the rest. When it finishes, the agent reports which
SKUs moved and why any others didn't — most often because the option values were already taken by a
SKU on the destination. It leaves those SKUs where they are, so nothing is lost.
