# Fill In the Materials Field

> How to enter a product's material composition as a single list of materials and percentages, and how it reaches the marketplace.

Some marketplaces ask for a product's material composition as a set of numbered fields — "Material 1", "Material 1 Composition Percentage", "Material 2", and so on. In Osello you fill in one **Materials** field instead: a single list where each row is one material and how much of the product it accounts for. Osello splits your list back into the marketplace's numbered fields when it submits the listing.

## Add materials to a listing

1. Open the listing and find **Materials** in the field list.
2. Click the edit icon on that row.
3. Pick a material from the dropdown. The list comes from the marketplace, so you can only choose materials it recognizes — start typing to search.
4. Enter the percentage of the product made from that material.
5. Click **Add material** for each additional material, then **Save**.

The running total on the right shows how much of the product you've accounted for. It turns red until your percentages add up to 100%, which is what most marketplaces expect. A total over 100% can't be saved — reduce a percentage first.

## Order matters

Materials appear on the marketplace in the order you list them, and the first material fills the marketplace's "Material 1" slot. List the most common material first — for a shirt that's 90% cotton and 10% polyester, put cotton at the top.

## How many materials you can add

Each marketplace accepts a fixed number of materials, so the **Add material** button stops working once you reach the limit. Nordstrom, for example, accepts five. If you try to save more than the marketplace accepts, Osello blocks the save rather than quietly dropping the extras.

## Leaving a percentage blank

If you know a product contains a material but not how much, choose the material and leave the percentage empty. Osello sends the material through on its own. Filling it in is better whenever you know the number — some marketplaces reject listings whose percentages don't add up.

## What the marketplace receives

Your single list is expanded back into the marketplace's own numbered fields on submission, exactly as if you'd filled each one in by hand. A listing that's 60% leather and 40% cotton arrives as "Material 1: Leather, Material 1 Composition Percentage: 60, Material 2: Cotton, Material 2 Composition Percentage: 40".

The same is true in reverse — when Osello reads a listing back from the marketplace, or when you bulk edit with an import, the numbered columns are combined back into one Materials list.
